Boys Wonder Biography

Boys Wonder existed in something of a pre Brit pop vaccuum; big brash beats delivered with mod's swank and swagger. Signed to Sire in 1987 they released two singles; Now What Earthman and Shine On Me, both bold statements of intent but somehow swerving mainstream success. An album was reportedly recorded for Sire but never released; the label cut its losses and dropped the band. Line-up changes followed, seeing Steve and Richard from Dr & The Medics joining, and a brief relationship with Rough Trade saw Goodbye Jimmy Dean released as their third single...

Signed to Sire in 1987 they released two singles; Now What Earthman and Shine On Me, both bold statements of intent but somehow swerving mainstream success. An album was reportedly recorded for Sire but never released; the label cut its losses and dropped the band. Line-up changes followed, seeing Steve and Richard from Dr & The Medics joining, and a brief relationship with Rough Trade saw Goodbye Jimmy Dean released as their third single, again failing to make any real dent in the public's consciousness. Time for a rethink, then. The late 80s emergence of Italian house saw the band hitching their wagon to a new label, Flat Records, and replacing the predominantly rock guitar sound in favour of a more dance-orientated sound. A 6-track album, Radio Wonder, and the single Eat Me Drink Me were released before the band dissolved. The visual frontpiece of the band, twins Ben and Scott went on to form Corduroy, consigning Boys Wonder to the pantheon of legendary if-onlys. Visit boyswonder.co.uk for more info.
